Why Some European Flags Are So Hard
Can you tell the Netherlands from Luxembourg at a glance? More than half of first-time players get it wrong. Europe packs 46 flags into a small space, and several of them are near-twins — same colours, same layout, and only one tiny detail standing between them.
Here are the ten that trip people up most often, and the single detail you need to lock in for each one.
The 10 Hardest European Flags

1.Romania
Blue-yellow-red vertical tricolor, almost identical to Chad (Africa). Only the blue differs — Romania's is cobalt, Chad's is indigo.

2.Ireland
Green-white-orange vertical tricolor, a mirror image of Ivory Coast. The green and orange swap ends.

3.Netherlands
Red-white-blue horizontal tricolor. Luxembourg looks the same but uses a lighter blue and a wider ratio.

4.Luxembourg
Red-white-blue like the Netherlands — only a lighter blue and a slightly wider flag separate them.

5.Monaco
Red over white, nearly identical to Indonesia (Asia) and the upside-down version of Poland.

6.Poland
White over red — the inverted Monaco and Indonesia. The only question is which colour sits on top.

7.Norway
Red with a blue-and-white Nordic cross, often confused with Iceland, whose cross colours are swapped.

8.Iceland
Blue with a red-and-white cross — the colour-swapped cousin of Norway, Denmark and the other Nordic flags.

9.Slovakia
White-blue-red with a double cross on a shield. People mix it up with Slovenia — even the country names look alike.

10.Slovenia
White-blue-red with a shield showing Mount Triglav. Same colours as Slovakia, different emblem.
