How to Play the North America Flags Quiz
A North American flag appears on screen and four country names sit below it. Tap the one that matches the flag. The answer is instant — a correct pick lights up green, and a wrong pick turns red while the real answer is revealed, so you learn the right flag even when you miss.
Every correct answer earns 10 points and grows your streak. A wrong answer resets the streak to zero but never touches your total score, so a single bad guess cannot wipe out a good run. There is no timer and no question limit — play for two minutes or two hours at your own pace.
For a daily test, hit the Daily Challenge button. It serves a fixed set of ten questions you can attempt once per day, saves your result on your device, and lets you share your score when you finish.
This North America flags quiz draws from 23 countries, spanning three very different regions — the three big mainland nations, the blue-and-white flags of Central America, and the colourful Caribbean island states. The sections below split the continent into those blocks so you can learn it faster.

Flag Design Patterns in North America
North America's flags fall into three clear groups, each with its own history.
- The three mainland giants. The United States flies thirteen red-white stripes for the original colonies plus a blue canton with fifty stars for the states. Canada's red-white-red Maple Leaf flag, adopted in 1965, replaces any colonial reference with a single red maple leaf. Mexico's green-white-red vertical tricolor carries the national coat of arms — a golden eagle perched on a cactus devouring a snake, from the Aztec legend of the founding of Tenochtitlan.
- Central America's shared origin. Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua all descend from the old Federal Republic of Central America, and all still use blue and white. Guatemala's tricolor runs vertical; the other three run horizontal blue-white-blue — distinguished by what sits in the centre.
- The colourful Caribbean. Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, the Bahamas and the island states favour bright colours, diagonals and triangles. Jamaica's yellow cross, Trinidad's black diagonal band, Saint Lucia's triangles and the Bahamas' black hoist triangle all make the region the most visually varied on the continent.
Most Confused Flag Pairs in North America
These near-twins trip up players more than any others. Here is the detail that separates each one.
| Pair | How to tell them apart |
|---|---|
| United States vs Liberia vs Malaysia | All three are red-white stripes with a blue canton. The US has 13 stripes and 50 white stars; Liberia has 11 stripes and a single white star; Malaysia has 14 stripes and a yellow crescent with a 14-point star. |
| El Salvador vs Nicaragua vs Honduras | All are horizontal blue-white-blue. El Salvador and Nicaragua both carry a triangular coat of arms in the centre, while Honduras has five blue stars instead. The two coat-of-arms flags differ in their emblem details. |
| Cuba vs Puerto Rico | Both are five stripes with a triangle and a single star, but the colours are swapped. Cuba has blue stripes and a red triangle; Puerto Rico has red stripes and a blue triangle. Note: Puerto Rico is a US territory and is not one of the 23 countries in this quiz. |
How to Memorize North America Flags Fast
- Split the continent into three blocks first. Ask "big mainland nation, Central American, or Caribbean?" before you try to name the country. That one filter removes most of the wrong answers instantly.
- Learn the three giants by their centres. The US has a blue canton of stars, Canada has a red maple leaf, and Mexico has the eagle-and-snake emblem — each is unmistakable on its own.
- Group the Central American flags together. Blue-and-white means the former Central American federation. Then check the centre: five stars is Honduras, a coat of arms is El Salvador or Nicaragua, and a vertical tricolor is Guatemala.
- Anchor the Caribbean flags to their emblems. Jamaica's yellow cross, Barbados' trident, Dominica's parrot, Grenada's nutmeg, Saint Lucia's triangles — the symbol names the country.
- Watch the triangle flags. Cuba, the Bahamas, and several island states lead with a triangle at the hoist. Note the triangle's colour and the stripe colours to separate them.
- Use the Daily Challenge for spaced repetition. Ten random North America questions a day keeps the blue-white-blue flags from blurring together, and the streak gives you a reason to come back.
